General Description: The Unakite Chrome extension is designed to help programmers organize information foraged from the web. It helps programmers collect information from the web and organize it into a comparison table, so that they can make quicker, more informed decisions with the visualization. It is developed and maintained by a group of researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, Human-Computer Interaction Institute. It is a part of an on-going research effort in trying to make programming easier. Privacy Policy: The extension will have a sign in/out functionality using your personal Google account. Only the data of authenticated users will be recorded. As the research requires, the extension will capture the following data: (a) information you choose to collect using the extension (for example, you could use a built-in clipping tool to capture a part of a web page for reference); (b) every page URL and search query that associated with (a). Please avoid using the extension to work on proprietary or sensitive projects you do not wish the above information to be collected. Please either use a different browser (e.g. Safari or Firefox) or sign out to deal with tasks that you do not want to be recorded by the extension. There is a risk of revealing sensitive information via your searches and other usage of the extension. However, we will minimize this risk by: (1) using secure transfer protocols and encryption mechanisms to transmit and store the data on the server; (2) strictly limiting the full access to your data to only the members of the research group and the sponsor (NSF); (3) personally identifiable information are properly anonymized so that even researchers do not have knowledge of your identity. The extension uses Google Firebase platform as its backend, which provides fast and secure data storage and transmission out-of-the-box. This provides guarantee that the data generated by using the extension are securely protected from hacking and leaking to the greatest extent.
