Nice Downloads! makes downloading on Chrome pretty nice.
It automatically shows and hides Chrome's download shelf when starting a new download, and notifies you when one completes.
It also features a toolbar button that will popup the downloads screen, and the icon changes colour when you have active downloads.
If a download is interrupted by Chrome, the shelf will remain open until you interact with it.
