PLEASE NOTE: If the extension stops working all of a sudden, it's most likely due to an Instagram update. I will update the extension to fix problems as they arise.

Instead, you can use the "Download" buttons that are seamlessly integrated into Instagram's UI. One click and the photo or video will be downloaded! This is perfect if, for example, you want to save something and refer back to it later on.
